Gas compression typically takes place in the midstream phase, after gas extraction. Compressed gas is either stored in specialized caverns, such as salt caverns, or transported further through pipelines. For every form of gas compression and gases of various qualities, we provide the appropriate solution with our powerful drives.

Various gases for compression.

Compressors can compress a variety of gases, including natural gas, carbon dioxide, or hydrogen. A particular advantage of our gas engines is that they can use the produced gas as fuel simultaneously. Thanks to innovative combustion technologies, Cat gas engines also have an increased tolerance for gas quality and are suitable for burning almost all types of gases.

Our Gas Engine Rating Pro (GERP) tool from Cat helps you analyze the composition of your gas and determine whether it can be used directly in the engine without additional treatment. GERP is a PC-based program that creates performance features, performance curves of pumps, temperature balances, and installation drawings based on your specific requirements.

Zeppelin Power Systems also offers customized solutions for gas upgrading. By using coalescing filters and other purification technologies, we ensure smooth and reliable operation of your engines.

Gas engines for demanding gas compression

The Cat gas engines from the G3300, G3400, G3500, G3600, and CG137 series are ideal for gas compression. The integration of ADEM™ A4 technology in these engines allows for precise fuel control and the use of produced gas as fuel, optimizing operating costs.

The G3300 series is designed for low to medium power applications and stands out for its high efficiency and reduced emissions. For medium compression processes, the Cat G3400 offers an optimal price-performance ratio. The G3500 series combines excellent fuel efficiency with advanced emissions control, while the G3600 series is designed for high-performance applications and is known for its extreme durability and longevity. For large-scale applications and the processing of complex gas mixtures, the CG137 series is particularly suitable.

The combination of robust Cat gas engines and advanced ADEM™ A4 control technology provides operators in the oil and gas industry with a technically sophisticated, reliable, and cost-effective solution for gas compression tasks. This technology allows for increased productivity while reducing operating costs.

Low consumption and high performance

Our Cat engines feature an excellent mechanical efficiency (up to 44%) and low fuel consumption. They can operate without loss of performance at ambient temperatures of up to +45°C and at altitudes of 900 meters above sea level, and are also operational at low gas pressures (0.07 to 3.1 bar).
