25. September 2024 | Achim near Bremen, Germany

As soon as you leave the A27 in the direction of "Achim-Ost", you will see them: The flags of Zeppelin Power Systems. But what exactly is behind the company, which has its largest site in Achim with around 350 employees? And are there perhaps unexpected career opportunities? Exactly these questions were addressed last Friday, when the company opened its doors and factory gates to interested parties for the first time as part of a "Career Day".

Successful Career Day at Zeppelin Power Systems – Company opens its doors to interested parties

While in the afternoon all those interested in one of the numerous job opportunities at Zeppelin Power Systems were invited, the morning was reserved for the topic of education, with a special focus on the education of girls. For example, 58 schoolgirls from the Liebfrauenschule Vechta, now the only girls' high school in Lower Saxony, came to gain an insight into the company and the traditionally "male-dominated" occupational fields. The headmistress of the Liebfrauenschule, Christina Meyer, and the managing director of Zeppelin Power Systems, Eva-Mara-Graf, both alumnae of the school and friends since the 5th grade, opened the day with a speech in which they called on everyone to have the courage to follow paths that at first glance lead to professions that are not typical for women.

"It is important to me that female students get an early insight into companies, and I am delighted that Zeppelin Power Systems has opened its doors to us today," said Christina Meyer, principal of Liebfrauenschule Vechta. "Eva and I have never lost sight of each other over the years, and we are both in a position where we can make a difference. That's what we wanted to achieve today: For the girls to network, make connections and discover opportunities they may not have considered before."

Although the company's technical career field is classically "male-dominated," there are female talents in many positions among the 1,100 employees in 12 countries. Three of these "role models" gave the schoolgirls an insight into their everyday life, their tasks and their way to and at Zeppelin Power Systems: Lea Pfeifer, a trainee mechatronics engineer and one of a total of 26 trainees at the company, Helene Weimar, a dual student of electrical engineering andinformation technology and one of seven dual students, and Stefanie Buchheister, a design engineer at Zeppelin Power Systems. Afterwards, they had the opportunity to talk to the various departments, take a tour of the test bench and the halls for new engine equipment and engine repair, or find out directly about training and entry opportunities at Zeppelin Power Systems. It was an exciting day not only for the students, but also for Managing Director Eva-Maria Graf. "I am delighted that we are able to open our doors to so many great and promising young people today as part of our Careers Day. It is invaluable to find out about career opportunities at an early stage and to network. In particular, direct contact with companies offers young people valuable insights and helps them to discover their professional interests". Addressing the students at her former school, she added: "Have the courage to go your own way and follow your dreams.
